The Mexico City Policy
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan announced, in Mexico City, a federal policy that disallows funding for foreign nongovernmental organizations that counsel or provide abortion for women. Since then, Republican administrations have maintained this policy while the Clinton and Obama Administrations have suspended the policy.
N.J. Senator Frank Lautenberg has now sponsored an amendment, to be attached to the State Department funding bill that would permanently repeal the policy and maintain the Obama Administration's position.
