As recently as February
2004, 60 Minutes did
a segment on the Evangelical movement in the United
States.
It estimated
that 70 million Americans are Evangelical. ABC News
Primetime anchor, Diane Sawyer, also reported some
interesting statistics about Christians in America
before introducing Mel Gibson’s new movie,
The Passion. Amazingly,
82% of Americans are self-proclaiming Christians,
while only 13% of Americans say they
have no religious faith.
Q: While the number of true believers may be somewhat
smaller than 82% of America, as a group, Christ followers
still out number any other category of people. So
why are the definitions of life, marriage, sexuality,
and religious freedom being rewritten to suit a faithless
minority?
A: An overwhelmingly large number of Christians do
not take advantage of the opportunity to participate
in the governing process.
Q: Why?
A:
1. I am only one person what difference can I make?
2. There is so much information out there,
I don’t
have time to stay informed.
3. I don’t always know what issues are important
and why.
4. How do I know who to believe regarding important culture issues?
5. I don’t know how to effectively participate in the process in order
to have an impact on the culture.
Culture Campaign exists to help church and para-church organizations reenlist
believers into the culture war one believer at a time. We use the same methods
used by the early church to spread the Gospel before the printing press, mass
mailings, telemarketing, radio, or television. We train organizations how to
develop relationship based
relay teams.
Presently, the work needed to protect the unborn, the
family, and the church from bad government, is being performed by a select few
people. These ordinary
people have rearranged their lives for this purpose. Their grit and God’s
Grace serve as the guard rails holding back a culture determined to barrel over
the cliff in pursuit of unquenchable sexual decadence. Building relay
teams will
enable us to spread the weight more evenly across the entire
body. As Christians, we are all called to steward the many
gifts God has given us in this great nation.
We believe informed participation in the governing process
is part of being a good steward. Participation on a relay
team allows even the busiest believer
to become an informed participant
in God’s gift of self-government.
